Choosing A Nursery

Our founders have helped to qualify many thousands of childcare workers and nursery staff during the last twenty years. We have poured that experience into The Childcare Academy, a one-of-a-kind nursery in the city.

You are welcome to visit us and see for yourself how we will care for your child when you are not with them. First and foremost, you want your child to be safe and happy. At The Childcare Academy, we prioritise your child feeling safe and loved.  Read more about our Live, Love, Learn approach here.

Peace of Mind

Without a doubt, you want a nursery that will give you peace of mind. Your child’s progress, development and wellbeing is coupled with the reassurance that we meet the legal and regulatory requirements of the EYFS as an Ofsted registered nursery.

Beyond these legal requirements, what should you be looking for when choosing a nursery?

Choosing a Nursery: Five Things To Look For

During a visit to your shortlisted nurseries, use the following to prompt your questions:

  1. Do children seem content and are they kept stimulated? Ask to see the activity plan and check it includes a good variety of activities. Also, does it include quiet time? And is the plan actually being followed?
  2. What staff training and qualifications do the employees have? Ask about the nursery’s ongoing training and development (link).
  3. Is the nursery clean, safe and welcoming? Top tip: inspect the equipment to check it is well-maintained.
  4. Ask about how staff manage behaviour. Does their approach chime with your preferences?
  5. Does the setting practice inclusion and equality? Does it instil the knowledge children need to prepare for future successs?

The above are pointers to help you find a nursery where your child will thrive. Instinct and gut reactions will also play an important part. All in all, do you sense your child will feel loved?

Happiness & Wellbeing

At The Childcare Academy, our values start with happiness and wellbeing. Overall we strive to engage children, so they look forward to coming in every day. And, of course, we want you to be happy dropping them off with us!

When choosing a nursery, you can also ask about a home visit. If parents or carers request it, we offer to visit you where your child lives.  Clearly, this gives us insight into a child’s particular needs and again offers reassurance to parents.

At The Childcare Academy, we use parent and carer involvement to underpin the care we give to children. To achieve this, we invite parents to attend progress meetings with staff.

We are grateful for the chance to help shape the early years of children. After all, what we do together today will impact future success and outcomes.
